I thought I should review the steps that we have to follow in order to have the best chances of having puppies.
Now that we've finishing the dogs championship, passed all health tests, found a boy who has a complimentary pedigree & has also passed his health testing, and managed to get his semen safely in the country at our reproduction Veterinarian....we wait.
I know, I don't wait well either! But this is what we are left to do.
We are waiting for Maggie to ovulate. Normally we breed Danes around Day 10-14, but Maggie has no want, will or desire to co-operate.
April 1st (Day 4) 1.05 ng/ml
April 5th (Day 8) 1.42 ng/ml
April 7th (Day 10) 1.48 ng/ml
Now you may be asking "What does this mean to me and potential pups?"
Well here's the science:
Progesterone is considered 'Baseline' until it reaches 1.8 ng/ml
when we start to see the rise - 2-3 ng/ml things will move along quickly.
5-8 ng/ml = Ovulation! This is a key set of numbers that we need because puppies would be born 60 days from this point.
It takes 2 days for eggs to mature after ovulation (or become fertile) and will remain
viable for 2-3 days.
Traditionally progesterone testing will be around 15-20 ng/ml at this point but can be in the 20's!
