Day 59 - Sunday

The whelping box is now up and waiting to be filled with pups!
Here are all our marking supplies
Maggie chilling with the gang, it was her face that made me giggle.
As of last night here was her temperature chart. It did dip a bit at 4:15 this pm to 99.4.
As things unfold I will post it all.

Week #8

Here we are day 56, or week 8

Somebody, I don't know who that might be, figured that pictures of Maggie standing are better, but poor Maggie just hates standing now!
Maggie was 130 lbs when we started this process and weighted in at 153.4 lbs when we were at the vet yesterday.

Hope

At noon we headed down to see Bruce (my neighbourhood vet). Needed to make sure that the infection hadn't gotten to the pups.
Karen was manning the camera! Say thank you to her for getting pictures.
We at least 4 healthy, moving kids, please note that this was NOT done to get numbers just to make sure they were doing well.
Another kid.

Week 5

Here is Maggie 5 weeks post the first TCI.
She's a sausage right now!

Trama Day #4

Maggie this morning. So much better!!
The swelling is gone now it's just the abscess left but it would appear that the antibiotics are doing their job.
Yay!!
I may book an ultrasound just to make sure that the puppies are progressing normally.

Trama Day #3

Poor, poor Maggie! I gave up on hot compresses this afternoon and went to cold packs....I know, I know, completely against what the vet wanted but the swelling went down a bit once I started following my gut.
Don't get me wrong there is still a ton of swelling but at least she can move her eyebrow again!!
For those of you who didn't catch the added drama on Facebook, poor Maggie's vulva also swelled up to bigger then a golf ball smaller then a soft ball size.
I don't know why this is underlined, but I can't make it stop....

Trama Day #2

I haven't had a chance to download the new pictures from today but they are worse!
Her facial edema has increased by approximately 50% and as of 5:27pm tonight now the right side of her vulva is swollen as well. The vet is stumped.
No rise in temperature. Eating and drinking well. Just random amounts of swelling.
Vet wants me to check in every 12 hours.

Thank goodness that Maggie is so good when it comes to hot compressing her face!!! She just lays there for hours while I change it and never moves once I place it on her.

EDIT: PHOTO's ADDED!

Here are the Day 2 Photo's of her face.

Here is poor Maggie cuddled up under the blankets and hot compresses on her head.

Trama

The drama of the day.
The vet thinks Maggie ate a bee and has a massive infection that swelled up huge today:

Now she has to have hot compresses as often as possible.

MATH

For those of you that start to wonder about the cost of buying their pup and then go that one step further, here is some math for you:

Most people think $1500/pup x 10 pups = $15,000.00 I'm rich!
Think again!!

Not including the cost of the original bitch, her up keep, showing, and health testing here are the fees that I've paid just to breed Maggie and we don't even know if she's pregnant:

Newton Animal Hospital - Cultures - $80.64
Dr Vanderlip - Sending Semen up - $1027.56
Romeo - Half the stud fee - $810.13
Newton Animal Hospital - Probiotic/Antibiotics - 98.19
Dr van der Ende - Progesterones and TCI's - $1295.95
_________________________________________________
Total - $3312.47
(and there aren't even puppies on the ground yet!!)

This does not include the other half of the stud fee or x-ray, c-section if things go south, puppy toes and vaccines!

Does it start to make sense now?
Oh and ssshhhh! don't tell Darcy, I don't tell him or he'd have a heart attack!

Waiting

Did I ever mention that I don't wait well?
*insert Jeopardy theme music here*

28 days from the first TCI should be approximately when we should know, but I'm not a huge believer in doing a ton of stuff to interfere with the process other then an x-ray at the end so we know approximately how many puppies to expect.

I will have to try and con all the techie people out there to set up the webcam on the whelping box. If everything goes well then all of you will be able to feel like you are right there!
Of course there will have to be a disclaimer about me in my PJ's...

Last TCI

At Dr. van der Ende's place she has her own progesterone testing machine on site! The only vet facility in BC that has one.
I know I already posted the pictures of the last TCI, so I figured I'd show off the office.
Due Date is June 13th 2011 if we have pups - keep your fingers, toes and paws crossed!

Happy 3rd Birthday!

Nyah chillin' on her bed.
Emma enjoying weather that is far warmer then here!

Happy Birthday to all the Power Kids!!
Lorek, Luke, Lara, Nyah, Emma & Maggie!

I'll post pictures when I get them (hint, hint)
